One response I have heard from a former client on this issue is: Why don’t you make the working shorter and simplify the message to the user?

The answer is: shorter wording is not equal to a simpler message. Clear meaning is equal to a simpler message, even if it means longer wording.

Remember that this is about communication between the application and the person using it.

You can afford a few additional miliseconds needed for the longer wording, but you can’t afford the frustration of ambiguity and guesswork or of a user selecting the wrong action after all.
